Roof Restore Cedar Shake Cleaning

Cedar Shake RoofingNewly installed cedar shingle siding is a beautiful piece of workmanship to look at. If only it could stay that way.

Well it can but it takes some work. If you have a cedar shake roof you should plan to protect your investment.

Mold will start growing after the first rain and within 2 years the cedar will be all spotted with mold and on some sides of the house (north) it may be covered in mold.

Roof Restore uses a product called "Cedar Seal" to help protect cedar shake roofs. A single coat of Cedar Seal will give you 5 years of protection and you can retain that "just installed" look.

If you have an older cedar roof, give us a call today so we can help you keep it looking new and free of algae and mold.

After Cedar Seal is applied it dries clear (transparent) so that you can see the beautiful cedar. Cedar Seal does have a slight tint that actually enhances the look of the cedar. The tint provide UV protection from the suns damaging rays. It's the suns rays that "gray" the wood.

Cedar Seal coats the wood not allowing water to enter the wood but enabling the wood to breath, which is very important. Wood needs to breath because in some situations water gets behind the wood where there was no cedar sealer applied but being able to breath allows the wood to dry quickly. The key is not letting the water enter the wood from the front side, if water can't enter the wood then mold can't grow. Roof moss is a problem in some states and moss attaches itself to the cedar roof shakes and sucks the water out of it. A thick coat of moss will rot a hole in your roof.

Cedar Seal has mold inhibitors in the stain that will prevent mold growth.

Cedar Seal provides the 3 biggest factors that a good exterior stain should provide.

  1. Provides UV Protection
  2. Repels Water
  3. Resists mold growth

Cedar Seal is an environmentally friendly solution:

  • It has no Odor
  • It has low VOC's
  • it is water based
